Demetria L. Lucas who stars on Bravo TV’s “Blood, Sweat & Heels” did it again! The sort after relationship expert, author, and award-winning blogger, known for her no-nonsense attitude put together another “go to guide.” Different than her first book which talked to single ladies on the dating scene, “Don’t Waste Your Pretty: The Go-to Guide for Making Smarter Decisions in Life & Love,” talks to anyone who is trying to navigate through love and life.

The book starts off with her admitting that she became a relationship coach accidentally. She became an expert at a time when a growing number of men were becoming “relationship gurus” with a niche that often times was not “empowering,” and the guys just didn’t “get it.” Lucas notice a void in relationship counseling, women needed someone they can relate to, and simultaneously get common sense advice from.

Back then she blogged about her dating experiences, she told “the good, the bad, and the ugly.” She quickly became “The Belle of Brooklyn, the go to girl for living your best single life.” She’s known for her tell it like it is attitude that has provoked thousands of questions from women and men who want to know if they’re on the right track for love.

dwypbook2She used several platforms such as, FormspringAsk.Fm and her column at “The Root,” to answer those questions. Her book consists of the Q&As that she noticed have become repetitive in her four years of coaching. Lucas – who describes herself as a work-in-progress, shares her theory on love, how to do a “cutie run” and what it means to “Don’t Waste Your Pretty.” She has dealt with intense questions on how to get past sexual assault while dating? To less complicated questions about whether it’s considered playing games if you’re not always available? She also answered people who wanted to know her take on certain relationship advice given by men relationship experts. She even shares answers that involves her personal relationship with her fiancé CBW.

This book is a quick read and hard to put down, as you will find yourself intrigued by some questions people asked, and how Lucas responds. “Don’t Waste Your Pretty,” is funny, shocking and thought provoking. The only con in this go to guide, is if you’re a fan that follows Lucas’s column and social media you may be familiar with a lot of the book without actually purchasing it. Nonetheless, it’s a good read and a guide to refer to when having those important conversation about love, sex and relationships with your significant other.

  1. I’ve been waiting for a more thorough book review of “Don’t Waste Your Pretty.” After reading your review I think I’ll add this book to my Good Reads “To-Read” shelf. Wish me luck in reading 50 books for the year 2015. I have good intentions…

    • I read somewhere, that someone had intentions on reading reading 30 but they pushed it to 75 and was able to read 50 books for the year. I would say try to push it up to 75 and then if you reach 50 you will have accomplished your goal. Good Luck!
